Going the Extra Mile: BtG Educators become Certified First Aiders

Accidents and emergencies can happen anywhere, at any time. Whether at home, in public spaces or within the four walls of the classrooms, having the ability to provide immediate assistance can make a crucial difference in the outcome of an incident. First aid is not just a skill; it’s a vital tool that enables individuals to step in during the critical moments before professional help arrives.

As educators at Bridging the Gap, we understand the scope of responsibility entrusted in each one of us as we provide services to children with diverse needs. As much as possible, being mindful of the precautions and exerting a huge effort to keep kids from danger is always on top of the list. However, at times, things can go beyond one’s control. It will always pay off to have knowledge on how to respond to emergencies. As the old saying goes, “Knowledge is power.”

Last October 2023, the BtG Educators had completed the Child First Aid Course through Singapore First Aid Training Centre. It covered a range of topics, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of emergency response. Here are some of the key takeaways and experiences from the course:

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): Participants learn how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants, a skill that can be the difference between life and death in cardiac arrest situations.

Choking Response: Knowing how to help someone who is choking is a fundamental aspect of first aid training. Participants learn techniques to clear airways and restore normal breathing.

Wound Care: Understanding how to clean, dress, and bandage wounds helps prevent infection and minimizes the risk of complications.

AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Usage: Participants are trained on how to use an AED, a device that can restore a normal heart rhythm in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.

First Aid Course stands as a testament to the importance of empowering individuals with life-saving skills. By investing in first aid training, communities are better prepared to face emergencies head-on, turning ordinary individuals into potential heroes.

Although for BtG Team, it is not about becoming heroes and hearing applauses. It’s all about giving what’s best for every child under our care because each one of their lives matter.
