Love and Light: Arts, Crafts, and Magical Milestones Behind
One of our September highlights are our children’s lantern-making activity during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The children recently took on the delightful challenge of creating their very own glowing bunny-themed lanterns, and the results were nothing short of magical.
A Glow with Creativity and Skills
This fun activity wasn’t just about art; it also nurtured important developmental skills along the way:
- Fine Motor Skills: As the children worked on assembling their lanterns—cutting, sticking, and colouring—they were strengthening their fine motor skills, essential for tasks like holding a pencil and manipulating small objects.
- Sensory Exploration: The tactile experience of working with different materials—such as paper, string, and glue—provided the children with rich sensory input. They could feel the smoothness of the plastic lantern base, the soft texture of the string, and the stickiness of the glue.
- Cognitive Development: Following multi-step instructions was a key component of the activity, helping the children develop sequencing and problem-solving abilities. They were able to focus on each step in creating their glowing bunnies, learning to plan and execute ideas.
- Social Interaction and Communication: As the kids collaborated in small groups, they shared materials, exchanged ideas, and practiced communication skills. Some of them even helped each other, showing teamwork and a sense of community.
Lantern Love in Action
The children are beaming with pride as they gather inside their cozy hideaway, lit by the warm glow of their handmade bunny lanterns. Each lantern was uniquely decorated, showcasing the kids’ individual creativity. From pink bunny ears to glowing cheeks, the lanterns are a delightful reminder of how art can bring joy and learning together.
In the end, the lanterns aren’t just a craft project—they’re symbols of growth, creativity, and the little steps our children take toward becoming more confident and capable individuals. We couldn’t be prouder of their glowing creations!
What a beautiful September it is!
