This workshop aims to provide valuable insights and guidance to parents who are navigating the complex landscape of educational options available for neurodiverse children in the country. This virtual workshop comes at a crucial time when there is an increasing demand for inclusive and tailored educational solutions for children with diverse learning needs.

Exploring Educational Pathways

Ms. Tang provided a comprehensive overview of the various educational pathways available for children who are neurodiverse in Singapore. From mainstream schools with support services to special education schools and integrated programs, parents have gained insights into the pros and cons of each option, enabling them to make informed decisions based on the specific needs and preferences of their children. She also included requirements and admission processes of these suggested schools, including IQ testing information. In addition, she tackled about deferment which are equally insightful for some parents who might have this step necessarily taken.

Empowering Parents and Caregivers

Recognising the pivotal role of parents and caregivers in advocating for their children’s educational needs, the workshop equips them with practical information and resources to support their child’s learning journey effectively. From understanding Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) to accessing support services, parents will learn how to navigate the educational system with confidence and empower their children to reach their full potential.

Promoting Lifelong Learning and Growth

Ultimately, the workshop aims to inspire a mindset of lifelong learning and growth, both for children with additional needs and the broader community. By fostering a collaborative and supportive environment, parents were encouraged to continue seeking new opportunities, exploring innovative approaches, and advocating to maximise every child’s full potential.

Ms. Samantha Tang has addressed a number of questions raised by the parents regarding this matter. She also closed the workshop with a collated list of online resources that could help parents be guided into navigating educational pathways for their child.

As Singapore continues to strive towards building an inclusive society where every individual has the opportunity to fulfill their potential, we hope this workshop had shed a light to every parent out there who have nothing but the best in mind for their child’s future.
